Welcome to Moonstone Class
We are a class of Year 4 children.
Our teacher is Mr Rowland
and Mrs Moore is our teaching assistant.
Autumn Term 2023
Welcome back to the new academic year!
We would like to welcome the children back after their summer break!
We have a busy term ahead of us.
Our main topics for this term are the Anglo Saxons and Volcanoes. We will be learning all about how the Anglo Saxons lived, how they fought and the changes they made to our country. We will look at how the different features of the Earth are formed.
In English, we will be looking at a range of different text types where we will be applying a range of comprehension, written and spoken skills.
In Maths we will be looking at Place Value and the four operations.
We will have our own class assembly this term alongside the Harvest Festival.
Homework will be set on a Tuesday and spellings will be practised daily in school; your child needs to do this at home too on Spelling Shed.
Reading is encouraged on a daily basis, look out for our different activities to share with your child
to make reading a pleasure, not a chore.
Your child will need to come to school wearing their PE kit every Wednesday, please ensure that they have joggers and a fleece.
(Spare socks/shoes may be required).
Our term will finish, as always, with the many delights that come with Christmas. We will enjoy this festive time.

Summer Term 2023
We have another busy term ahead of us. Our main topics for this term are Sound, States of Matter and the Indus Valley. In Geography, we shall be looking around our school site and local area to study changes in land use. We will continue to learn French and be looking at fruit and vegetables in Art. We shall also be reading Cloud Tea Monkeys and many different Just So Stories in our English lesson.
We will also be doing some transition work in preparation for the children moving on to their next schools;
including visits from the year 5 staff. We also have our Year 4 Trip to the Roald Dahl Museum.
As always, your child will need to come to school wearing their PE kit every Wednesday, please ensure that they have the correct uniform. Navy blue shorts and a white T-shirt.
Our term will finish, with our leavers’ celebrations. We have a church service, fun day, talents and our leavers’ assembly arranged to help them celebrate their time with us at St Mary’s.
Spring Term 2023
We would like to welcome the children back after the Christmas holidays; we would also like to wish you a happy New Year.
Our main topics for this term are: Habitats, Ancient civilisations and Brazil.
We are hoping to have our own class assemblies this term alongside the passion play, which is performed in St Mary’s Church, and hopefully, many of our children will continue to take part in collective worship with Rev. Bill.
We would like to remind you that the children will be given homework every Wednesday and that it is due in the following week. Reading journals also need to be completed and handed in on a weekly basis. Times table rock stars and Spelling shed should be practised as often as possible to ensure that these skills become fully embedded.
We have now subscribed to Mathletics too so look out for log in details.
When your child does PE they need to ensure that they remove all jewellery/ watches and fitbits including tying back long hair.
At St. Mary’s we want every child to develop a love of reading and of books. We have chosen a selection of ‘Core Books’ for children in each year group (please see below). These books are a mixture of classics and exciting new books by a wide range of authors across a range of styles and genres. During their time in Year 4 children will get to know these books inside out, through their use in English and Topic lessons as well as being read at story time. We hope that they are also books that children will enjoy sharing with their families at home too!
