Crystal Class

Welcome to Crystal Class

We are a class of Year 4 children.

Our teacher is Mrs Baxter
Mrs Campbell is our teaching assistant.

Spring Term 2025

We would like to welcome the children back after the Christmas holidays; we would also like to wish you a Happy New Year.

Our main topics for this term are: Living in environments, Anglo Saxons and Mexico. We are also looking forward to starting our new Art unit called Painting and mixed media: Light and dark and continuing with our Computing where we will be looking at Coding.

We are looking forward to Young Voices and our residential at ROCK UK.
Just before Easter, we will be performing the passion play at St Mary’s Church.
Many of our children will continue to take part in collective worship with Rev. Bill and Rev. Graham.

We would like to remind you that the children should practise 15 minutes on Times Table Rock Stars and Spelling Shed should be practised 10 times per week to ensure that these skills become fully embedded.

At St. Mary’s we want every child to develop a love of reading and of books. We have chosen a selection of ‘Core Books’ for children in each year group (please see above). These books are a mixture of classics and exciting new books by a wide range of authors across a range of styles and genres. During their time in Year 4 children will get to know these books inside out, through their use in English and Topic lessons as well as being read at story time. We hope that they are also books that children will enjoy sharing with their families at home too!

Autumn Term 2024

Welcome back to the new academic year!

We would like to welcome the children back after their summer break!

We have a busy term ahead of us.

Our main topics for this term are the Anglo Saxons and Volcanoes. We will be learning all about how the Anglo Saxons lived, how they fought and the changes they made to our country. We will look at how the different features of the Earth are formed.

In English, we will be looking at a range of different text types where we will be applying a range of comprehension, written and spoken skills.

In Maths we will be looking at Place Value and the four operations.

We will have our own class assembly (Friday 22nd November) this term alongside the Harvest Festival.
Spellings and Times tables will be set on a Tuesday and will be practised in school; your child needs to do this at home too on Spelling Shed and Times Tables Rockstars.

Reading is encouraged on a daily basis, look out for our different activities to share with your child
to make reading a pleasure, not a chore.

Your child will need to come to school wearing their PE kit every Friday, please ensure that they have joggers and a fleece.
(Spare socks/shoes may be required).

Our term will finish, as always, with the many delights that come with Christmas. We will enjoy this festive time.

Summer Term 2024

We are also looking forward to starting our new Art unit called Fabric of Nature and continuing with our Computing where we will be looking at Creating Music, Animations and starting to look at using Google in preparation for Year 5.
