Diamond Class

Welcome to Diamond Class….come inside and have a look around!

Our teachers are Mrs Easton and Mrs Mythen and Mrs Chapman is our teaching assistant.

Summer Term 2019

It’s going to be a busy term in Diamond Class!
We have lots to
learn and explore!  As well as continuing their amazing progress in English and Maths, we will be starting our
new topic in Geography called ‘Our Country’.

We will be learning all about the United Kingdom and the

countries that make up our island.

In Science, we have started our new topic about Animals including Human.

We will be observing our class snails Obb and Bob and they may be paying

weekend visits if you are willing to host them!

We are really looking forward to our school trip to Stanwick Lakes in July.

The children will have an opportunity to build dens and design some amazing

art sculpture during the day as well as a chance to play in the park

if there is time!!

Please continue to support your child with their reading, spellings

and the Word of the Week.  Practice at home has a huge impact

on the progress they make in school.

Even at this point in the year, we are always glad of any help in Diamond class,

so if you can spare an hour, especially to hear children read, even on an

occasional basis please let us know.

Please come and see us if you have any questions.

Thank you for your support

Spring Term 2019

Our Geography topic will focus on Stotfold.  We have been on an interesting walk around the town and looked at key landmarks such as the shops, the church and the park.  We also noticed all the road signs.  We will be thinking about the features of the town and ideas for improvement over the next few weeks.

After half term we will be starting our History topic on the Great Fire of London.  The children will learn all about how the fire started, why it spread so quickly and how London was rebuilt following the Great Fire. We will also be re-creating our own Great Fire.

In Science, our topic is Plants and we will be growing our own bean plant and observing how it grows learning about the different parts of a plant.

As you know, every Thursday the children will be bringing home spellings to learn, please encourage the children to complete the practice sheet
and return to school the following Thursday as it really has a positive impact on the children remembering and retaining their spellings. In addition, please help your child to read and spell the word of the week.
Perhaps look for this word in the books that you read together, spell it out using play dough, draw it in some sand or a tray of rice?

We are always glad of any help in Year 1, so if you can spare an hour,

especially to hear children read, even on an occasional basis please let us

know.

Please come and see us if you have any questions.

Class Assemblies

Diamond Class on 27th March 2019   and   Amethyst Class on 23rd January 2019

Autumn Term 2018

Welcome back to the new academic year and to Diamond Class.

We have a busy term ahead and lots to look forward to! We have just celebrated

harvest festival and are looking forward to our class assembly,

Autumn walks and before you know it we will be into Christmas – concerts,

carols and crackers!!!

There are a lot of new routines that your child will be getting used to over the

next few weeks.  Please help them by ensuring that they have the correct

equipment on the right day and ensure all items of uniform are labelled.

It is really important that you read with your child every day and that this is

recorded in their purple reading record books – this helps to track their

progress effectively.

Each Thursday the children will be bringing home spellings to learn,

please encourage the children to complete the practice sheet and return it to

school the following Thursday. In addition, each week the children have a

word of the week to learn to read and spell.  Please help your child with this

i.e. practising writing the word, spotting the word in their reading book

and in other books you may read together.

Our history topic this term will be Nurturing Nurses.

We will be learning all about the life and work of three famous nurses –

Florence Nightingale, Mary Seacole and Edith Cavell.

As part of our learning a real nurse came in to talk to the children about

her job and how she looks after her patients.

In science we will be learning about different scientists and inventors and

also conducting some of our own experiments.  We may need your help to

collect resources for these experiments so please keep an eye on the

noticeboard outside our classroom for messages about this.

We are always glad of any help in Diamond class, so if you can spare

an hour, especially to hear children read, even on an occasional

basis please let us know.

Please come and see us if you have any questions.

We hope to see you at our Class assembly on 19th October.
