Diamond Class

Welcome to Diamond Class….come inside and have a look around!

Our teacher is Mrs Easton and Mrs Slater is our teaching assistant.

Please continue to support your child with their reading, spellings and the Word of the Week.  Practice at home has a huge impact on the progress they make in school.

We are always glad of any help in Diamond class, so if you can spare an hour, especially to hear children read, even on an occasional basis please let us know.

Please come and see us if you have any questions.

Thank you for your support

Mrs Easton & Mrs Slater

Spring Term 2017

Diamond class has been working so hard this term!  Our Geography topic has focused on Stotfold.  We went on an interesting walk around the town and looked at key landmarks such as the shops, the church and the park.  We also noticed all the road signs.

Diamond class have since written letters to the town council explaining what they like about Stotfold and made suggestions for improvements!  These included water parks, hot tubs and a gluten free bakery

After half term we will be starting our History topic on the Great Fire of London.  This will include a really exciting trip to the Museum of London to the ‘Fire, Fire’ exhibition!  The children will learn all about how the fire started, why it spread so quickly and how London was rebuilt following the Great Fire.

As you know, every Thursday the children will be bringing home spellings to learn, please encourage the children to complete the practice sheet and return to school the following Thursday as it really has a positive impact on the children remembering and retaining their spellings.  In addition, please help your child to read and spell the word of the week.  Perhaps look for this word in the books that you read together, spell it out using playdough, draw it in some sand or a tray of rice?

We are always glad of any help in Diamond class, so if you can spare an hour, especially to hear children read, even on an occasional basis please let us know.

Please come and see us if you have any questions. We hope to see you at our Class assembly on Wednesday 8th March at 9.00am.   Thank you for your support.

Autumn Term 2016

It has already been a busy term in Year 1.  Our history topic before half term was Nurturing Nurses.  The children have been learning all about Florence Nightingale, Mary Seacole and Edith Cavell,

As part of our learning a real nurse came to talk to our class about her job and how she looks after her patients.

This half term our geography topic is ‘Our School’.  We will be learning more about our school, and its location in Stotfold.  So far, the children have been thinking about Stotfold, the key landmarks in the town and why they like living and coming to school here.

Each Thursday the children will be bringing home spellings to learn, please encourage the children to complete the practice sheet and return to school the following Thursday. In addition, each week the children have a word of the week to learn to read and spell.  Please help your child with this ie, practising writing the word, spotting the word in their reading book and in other books you may read together.

We are always glad of any help in Diamond class, so if you can spare an hour, especially to hear children read, even on an occasional basis please let us know.
