Autumn Term 2017

Welcome back to the new academic year and to Amethyst Class.

We have a busy term ahead and lots to look forward to!
Harvest Festival will soon be here, class assemblies, visitors to school,
Autumn walks and before you know it we will be into Christmas – concerts, carols and crackers!!!

There are a lot of new routines that your child will be getting used to over the next few weeks.  Please help them by ensuring that they have the correct equipment on the right day and ensure all items of uniform are labelled.

It is really important that you read with your child every day and that this is recorded in their purple reading record books – this helps to track their progress effectively.

Each Thursday the children will be bringing home spellings to learn, please encourage the children to complete the practice sheet and return to school the following Thursday.  In addition, each week the children have a word of the week to learn to read and spell.  Please help your child with this i.e., practising writing the word, spotting the word in their reading book and in other books you may read together.

Our history topic this term will be Nurturing Nurses.  We will be learning all about the life and work of three famous nurses – Florence Nightingale,  Mary Seacole and Edith Cavell.

As part of our learning a real nurse will come to talk to the children about her job and how she looks after her patients.

In science we will be learning about different scientists and inventors and also conducting some of our own experiments.  We may need your help to collect resources for these experiments so please keep an eye on the noticeboard outside our classroom for messages about this.

We are always glad of any help in Amethyst Class, so if you can spare an hour, especially to hear children read, even on an occasional basis please let us know.

Please come and see us if you have any questions.
We hope to see you at our Class assembly on 4th October.

Thank you for your support.
