Amethyst Class

Welcome to Amethyst Class….come inside and have a look around!

Our teacher is Miss Sharp and Mrs Wilson is our teaching assistant.

Summer term 2017

Autumn Term 2016

It has already been a busy term in Year 1.  Our history topic before half term was Nurturing Nurses.  The children have been learning all about Florence Nightingale, Mary Seacole and Edith Cavell,

As part of our learning a real nurse came to talk to our class about her job and how she looks after her patients.

This half term our geography topic is ‘Our School’.  We will be learning more about our school, and its location in Stotfold.  So far, the children have been thinking about Stotfold, the key landmarks in the town and why they like living and coming to school here.

Each Thursday the children will be bringing home spellings to learn, please encourage the children to complete the practice sheet and return to school the following Thursday. In addition, each week the children have a word of the week to learn to read and spell.  Please help your child with this ie, practising writing the word, spotting the word in their reading book and in other books you may read together.

We are always glad of any help in Amethyst class, so if you can spare an hour, especially to hear children read, even on an occasional basis please let us know.

In Geography we have started learning about ‘Our School’. We worked in groups to draw an aerial plan of our classroom and then used a range of collage and junk modelling materials to turn them into ‘messy maps’. We also used Lego to build some of our tables, chairs and cupboards.
